Getting Ready for Baby

At Pleasantdolls, we get many requests from new parents for a list of things your fur baby needs to get them started off on the right paw.

Here is a "Wish List" to help get you started:

1. Cat carrier - If your baby is flying to you they will be flying in their carrier that will be included in the flight package. If you are picking up your cat/kitten please have a carrier of your choice along. Keep in mind that ragdolls are a large breed as a rule. Get a good carrier that should last the life of your baby, keeping in mind...some of our babies can grow to be VERY LARGE cats.

2. Tooth brush and kitty tooth paste - This will save you money and your baby's smile. A child's soft bristle tooth brush works well. Most cats like chicken flavored toothpaste. Never use human tooth paste on your baby.

3. Nail trimmers - Start them young and treat as you go. We will be more than happy to show you how to trim your kitty's nails.

4. Toys! - Ragdolls are like puppies....if you don't give them toys, they will take your stuff. Your stuff will become their stuff....just buy the toys!!  Also, please don't wrestle with your kitty. Wrestling with them/using your hands as toys will teach them to associate you as being a toy, and this becomes much less cute as they get older. Trust us....buy the toys.

5. Cat tree -  Place your cat tree in or near a window. For even more fun, please buy a bird feeder and feed the birds outside of said window. This will entertain your fur babies for hours and help the birds too, especially during the winter months when food is difficult for our feathered friends to find.

6. Brush and comb - Most our cats and kittens love to get brushed, it feels good and helps decrease shedding hair around your house.

7. Toys .... Lots of toys .... Can't have too many toys (Please see #4)

8. Dishes Glass or metal please. No plastic dishes. Plastic dishes will give your baby chin acne.

9. Did we mention toys? -  "Da Bird" Kittens love this toy. In fact, kittens love anything that dangles from a string. However, a word of warning...any string toys should be used under adult supervision to avoid accidental strangulation. Also, the plastic ring with the little ball is another favorite toy. Laser toys are fun and a great way for your baby to get exercise. Any toys that scream or chirp are always a good choice...Kittens love grass hoppers than chirp, mice that squeak, etc.

10. Dry, wet food and water - Kitten food, of course. We recommend giving kitten food until your baby is 18 months old. We also recommend both dry and wet (canned). Mixing some wet food into their diet as a yummy treat as well as a source of extra moisture. By nature, cats (all cats...lions, alley cats and tigers too!) do not drink enough water. The number one killer of cats is kidney failure. So make sure your cat/kitten always has access to LOTS of fresh, clean water.

11. Radio or TV  - Please, if you're gone for the day and your baby is alone, leave the TV or radio on for them. This breed is very intelligent and will need something to do.

12. Litter Boxes - One and a half boxes per kitty, minimum. In other words 3 litter boxes for 2 cats etc... Also, a cat litter scoop and scoopable cat litter. There are a variety of litter types. You may want to consider some alternatives to clay such as pea husk, corn husk, wheat or walnut shell etc...

... Did we mention toys???

“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.” – La Rochefoucald

We are firm believers that what you eat has a huge impact on your life. The same is true for all living things, including our precious fur babies. It's true that it takes a little

more effort (and money) but there's no greater blessing than seeing those we care so much about healthy and thriving!

At Pleasantdolls we are constantly researching and re-evaluating to make sure we're providing everything our kittens & cats need to have the best start to life and keep it

that way for many, many years to come!

We do this by feeding a raw meat diet as well as supplementing with one of the best nutritional powdered supplements available. NuVet ia a high-quality supplement

that incorporates a precise formula of antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, herbs and more. If you'd like to read more about and give it a try
